Choose the path and keep going – Vijay Pandya
Shri Vijay Pandya, a Sanskrit literature legend from the Gujarat achieved a lot during his journey of almost six decades. He got the highest honor of the country – “The President Award” in the year 2010 for his outstanding contribution in the Sanskrit.
During his journey Vijay contributed as an editor, writer, translator, speaker and many more roles for Sanskrit literature along with his job as a professor. He got chance to work with legends like Shri Morari Bapu, Shri Ramesh Bhai Oza to name a few.
Childhood days
Vijay Born on 6 May, 1943 in the middle-class Gujarati brahmin family. His grandfather was into the traditional brahmin community work of the karmakand. He lost his grandfather in very young age. His father – Devshankar Pandya was into accounting field and mother – Savita Pandya was a home maker.
He spent his childhood days in the Panchmahal district of the Gujarat. He is alma mater on Kumarshala and MG high school of Kankanpoor village and Pole School, Lunavada of the Panchmahal District. Later on, Pandya family shifted to Mumbai where he completed his graduation.
He is thankful to his friend and principle who supported him in his initial days when his family was struggling in the Mumbai. He got many friends and guides from the Mumbai.
Initial Days
After completion of his BA and MA studies, he decided to pursue career as a Sanskrit professor. He has rejected many governments job offers and started working on his passion.
He worked for almost two decades with one college located at Lunawada in the Panchmahal District of the Gujarat. Later on, he got job at Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. He worked there almost for two decades. During his tenure he guided 15 PhD and 29 M. Phil scholar too. He has authored and co-authored many syllabus books for studies.
Keynote contribution in the Sanskrit Literature
Along with his academic assignments he has done almost 65 translation projects too. He contributed for literature of Legendry Sanskrit scholar “Bhaubhuti” too. He has also translated “Mruchhakatik” play and also written many articles, columns and series.
He played instrumental role in “Sanskrit Satra” organized by Shri Morari Bapu for almost two decades. He used to deliver special talks in that event. Sankrit Satra committee has decided to write series of books from the impactful talks of events. He also played key role in editing and publishing those ten series volumes.
He has been serving today with noble objectives at the age 80. His love for Sanskrit language and literature can be felt in his contribution concern with culture, learning history and various exposure to shape complete personality.
Awards, Accolades & Achievements
He got ample media coverage for his contribution for the Ramayana translation. He himself also enjoys a lot in working for the Holy and very meaningful – Ramayana. He spent almost 16 years to complete that translation into the Gujarati. He has completed Ph.D. and Honors Degree of D.Lit. from the Somnath Sanksrit University.
He is blessed by a supportive family throughout his life. He could balance between personal and professional life throughout his career because of his hard work and dedication. He was awarded and accoladed for his achievements and drew the attention of media through huge coverage. Later, he also honored with Valmiki Award, Gold Medal from Somnath Trust, Bramahrshi Award, Hemchandracharya Award and also the very valuable awards from the Gujarat and UP Governments. The latest “The President Award” became unforgettable memory for him and his family.
