Ankita Chandravanshi

Ankita Chandravanshi was born in Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh on 24 December 1992. she did her Xi and Xii grade, Math-Science schooling from Sarswati Vidhya Mandir in the blessed hub of agricultural goods, Itarsi.

Genetics is a big game changer for an individual at times. Ankita’s mother had an eye for designing and she was good at the skill of stitching.  She used to checkout custom designed dresses and make the same for her daughter Ankita, rather than buying the ready-made dresses from the market. This got Ankita interested in patterns, shapes, colors and designs and guided her passion into designing.  As early as a school student ( Grade IX) Ankita had decided to pursue a career in fashion designing. At the tender age of 16, she did a survey on “town villages & artist streets” without taking anyone’s support.

Fate has its way

Circumstances and some problems cropped up and Ankita decided against pursuing fashion designing, however her mother knew heart and her passionate desire. Hence whilst the admissions were in process her mother requested an aunt to submit the forms for Ankita on the last date and as fate would have it , with that her admission was done and that was the way forward for her.

Education to hone skills

In the year 2010 Ankita completed her higher secondary ( XI& XII) and subsequently joined the Diploma in Fashion Technology course from Polytechnic College, Bhopal. Along with her college she began working as a freelance fashion stylist and teaching textile designing part-time. In the year 2012 although she got a job offer she wanted to pursue higher studies.  She opted for B.Sc( Home science – Fashion Design) from Sarojini Naidu P G Girls ( Nutan) college.  Clinical nutrition, human development, entrepreneurship development were subject that was part of this course.

In 2014-15 she did a six months course for Garment Making, hand embroidery and soft skill from the Government of India managed institute.  Prior to that in 2015 she did her M.Sc Textile and Clothing , PGDCA and Graphic Design in 2018, while the following year (2016-17) she got the opportunity as Assessor of Textile Skill Development Program at NIFT Bhopal.  A prestigious role indeed,in a prestigious institute.

Kamaksha – the journey continues

Shri Kamaksha started by the Chandravanshi family in 1974 by Lt. Sr. Chitresh Chandravanshi, grandfather of Ankita.  Kamaksha is a traditional firm located in Itarsi , Madhya Pradesh.  The firm is into field Handicraft and classical music since 1974. Mr. Chandravanshi has also been honored by our Prime Minister. Keeping in tune with times, Kamaksha ventured into textile and fashion designing.  Recently 2019 onward Kamaksha has started a women empowerment, employment training and work from home in the textile and clothing industry.

The USP for the studio Kamaksha is not just a clothing label, it’s a movement of sorts about fashion culture and India that’s known for its diversity.  Transforming Kamaksha- taking forward the legacy of the family, Ankita would like to take Kamaksha on a larger platform as a clothing brand with a soul. In her journey Ankita found that major challenge of Fashion Design field is dealing with such Mindset where people don’t understand actual meaning of fashion.

Ankita’s role model is her Mother and her Grandfather and support from father and uncle is always by her side.  Kamaksha literally means desire and the form of goddess KaaliMaa all encompasses the virtue.  Kamaksha relates to desire from the female perspective.  The logo of Kamaksha incorporates माँ within and the logic is universal and specifically for Ankita, as she finds her mother truly the source of her encouragement and inspiration in every way.   With her mother’s blessing merged with the virtues of KaaliMaa – the journey of Kamaksha continues.
